Tashi Lhunpo Monks
We are lucky to have a cohort of Buddhist monks from The Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, followers of his Holiness the Dalai Lama, with us for the duration of Wellbeing by the Lakes. Once part of a great monastery famed for its art, philosophy and music the Tashi Lhunpo monks are now based in southern India – but also travel the world celebrating Tibetan culture.
Attendees of the festival will get the opportunity to watch the monks as they create a colourful Wheel of Compassion sand mandala. This ancient Tibetan art form is exquisaitely intricate and takes millions of grains of sand which are painstakingly laid in place over a period of days. After the creation the mandala will be destroyed and the sand, which is thought to be very blessed, will be put into the River Frome, where the waters carry the healing energies throughout the wo

Saira is a Yoga Teacher and Holistic Therapist who has been running yoga retreats in Dorset since 2011. Lama Chodrak (Tony) has been teaching and presenting workshops on Mindfulness and Meditation in the UK, Europe, South, Africa and the USA since 1984 when he was ordained a monk in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.
Being fluent in Tibetan, Tony has acted as interpreter for various Tibetan teachers in the UK and in India, most prominently Venerable Mingyur Rinpoche, author of the books ‘Joy of Living’ and ‘Joyful Wisdom’. He was Rinpoche’s secretary when he lived in the Palpung Sherabling Monastery in Northern India for 4 years, acting as his interpreter both there and on all his UK teaching tours and during the writing of ‘Joy of Living’.

Claire Pullinger is a Buddhist photographer turned Head Kitchen Garden at Sculpture by the Lakes. From film sets and advertising campaigns in London and New York to travel photography in the Himalayas, Tibet and India, Claire’s life has been as colourful and varied as her portfolio. After meeting her teacher Mingyur Rinpoche in a monastery in Northern India in 2000 (now widely recognised as a Tibetan master and best-selling author) she was set even more firmly on her lifelong path of Buddhist learning and meditation. Together with Simon Gudgeon and his wife Mo, Claire is instrumental in creating spaces such as the Kitchen Garden and brings her beliefs, influence and contacts to our Wellbeing Festival.

David Tipper is a practicing sound therapist and teacher of yoga and mindfulness. As a sixth form teacher he also has a keen interest in supporting health and wellbeing within the education context. David’s aim is to empower people to engage in their own independent personal practice and to move towards better health and wellbeing.
David will be teaching a ‘Yoga and Sound’ practice which will incorporate asana, toning and instruments such as singing bowls and gongs. Soulcreek are an electro/acoustic duo formed in May 2014 by lifelong friends Benjamin James Parker (26 Lead Guitar) and Jack Francis Daniel Lande (23 Vocals and Guitar).
They had a serendipitous start, coming about as a bit of an accident. Ben was the guitarist in a jazz combo with a gig booked at The Boatyard Cafe in the Sandbanks Yacht Company. When his female singer pulled out at short notice, he asked his friend of 18 years, Jack to step in and learn 30 jazz standards in 2 weeks!
Jack was more than happy to help his mate out but his voice didn't really suit many of the female-oriented jazz numbers in the set.
They quickly re-designed the whole set to suit Jack's voice (ditching all of the jazz numbers) and their shared musical style and Soulcreek was born, initially under the working title of California Dreams.
They permanently named themselves Soulcreek in short order. By the end of 2018 they will have played more than 220 gigs in all manner of venues - pubs, clubs, restaurants, festivals and private events.
Their musical style is a mix of rock, hard rock and blues with two guitars and one voice. Ben’s lead guitar and solos have been described as ‘sublime’ and Jack’s rhythm guitar displaying a ‘deep musicality and pinpoint timing’. Jack is also an enigmatic frontman with a voice that people actually stop to listen to.
Their newly debuted original material is a melodic blend of modern rock and blues with a wide variety of tempos and themes.
Richard has a passion for helping as many people as possible experience the health and wellbeing benefits of gardens and is a Trustee of Thrive – a charity that helps people living with disability or ill-health through what is known as ‘Social Therapeutic Horticulture’.
Having spent his early career in corporate HR roles, Richard retrained in 2017 with the London College of Garden Design and set up his own garden design practice. During his training he won an award for the design of an ‘ecotherapy’ garden – a garden designed for its healing and therapeutic potential.
He is now based near Oxford and works throughout the UK creating gardens that combine contemporary design with a sensitivity to place and to the uniqueness of his clients.
Charmian has more than 25 years of experience as a practising acupuncturist, has worked and studied in a number of busy hospitals in China and was Course Leader/Senior Lecturer of the BSc Acupuncture Degree at The University of East London for 11 years. She is a member of the British Acupuncture Accreditation Board and is in the final stages of a Master’s degree giving her deeper insight into how we can best adapt and apply acupuncture to tackle many of today’s chronic health problems.
Using her background in dance and movement, she has been running classes and workshops in dance, yoga, and Pilates for many years. Charmian has worked with injured dancers, groups with low back pain, projects exploring improvised and devised dance, Tanztheater, and choreography for Shakespearian theatre. She is a member of the Laban Guild and currently part way through a creative dance leader’s revision course aimed at widening the participation and enjoyment of dance for all.
Preet is a Kundalini Yoga Teacher, Yoga Teacher Trainer, Sound Healer, Gong Trainer, Karam Kriya Consultant and sacred singer. She offers regular classes in kundalini yoga, provide gong trainings, workshops, retreats, one to one healing sessions and Kirtan evenings.
Sport and Wellbeing has always been my passion and I am fascinated by what the human body and mind can achieve. I am a Laughter Yoga Leader, Personal Trainer, Sports Massage Therapist, an NLP practitioner and have a PGCE in Adult education. I am also a musician. I have completed over 50 ultra- marathons, completed several ironman triathlons and competed nationally at cycling. I also do Obstacle course races which are huge amounts of fun! Fun for me it is imperative in life and something that adults can lose if they’re not careful. Laughter Yoga allows me to spread that fun!
Caspar Walsh has over 20 year’s experience facilitating rites of passage trainings and running creative inquiry retreats. He is a poet, author, radio dramatist, journalist, award winning filmmaker and co-founder of the charities, abandofbrothers and Write to Freedom.
Hannah is a trained horticulturist, garden designer, and founder of Project Nurture - a charitable organisation dedicated to utilising the power of the natural environment for the good of society, whether through design, research, specialist consultancy, teaching, or provision of therapeutic natural environments for society.
